Ioanna Laliotou

Ioanna Laliotou is the Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Education of the University of Thessaly. She is also an Associate Professor in the University’s  Department of History, Archeology and Social Anthropology. She studied history in the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Athens (1987-1992) and complete postgraduate studies in the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom (M.Soc. Sc. in Cultural Studies, 1993) and the European Institute of Florence (Ph.D. in History and Civilization, 1998).

Her book titled Transatlantic Subjects. Acts of Migration and Cultures of Transnationalism between Greece and America (Chicago: Chicago University Press, 2004) focuses on the history of the composition of immigrants as a social subject in the context of transatlantic cultural and political relations and exchanges during the first half of the 20th century. She is also and editor, along with   Luisa Passerini, Enrica Capussotti and Dawn Lyon of a collective book titled   Women Between East and West (London: Berghan Books, 2005). She has also completed the study History of the Future. How the Twentieth Century Imagined an “Other World”.

Her research interests include modern history, history of immigration and diaspora, international studies, history of subjectivity, intercultural relations, gender studies, cultural history, cultural theory and critique, history of utopia and the concept of the future.
